In 1966, I was eight years old. I lived on the same planet Earth, but it was a different world.
My childhood was different than yours. Sure, everybody is special, some children gifted, others from broken homes, most just children growing up with a skinned knee or two. But I bet you weren’t part of a secret project. “Childhood fantasy”, I thought in later years, safely dismissing hundreds of memories as dreams or vivid imagination. Sometimes I’d convince myself they were only disjointed fantasies inspired from reading science fiction. … The inherent risks of atomic destruction, biological devastation, chemical warfare, and the murder of presidents justified experiments upon children - an act of war - because there is no war as we know it, only annihilation.
